Read with Dzingi
19 August 2026 11:00 - 14:00
Don't let the holidays slow your child's reading! Research shows that children's literacy can slip during school breaks — sometimes called the "holiday slide" — meaning some children return to school achieving less than when they left.
To help, join Dzingi, a retired teacher, for free, fun reading sessions at Peggotty Road Community Centre. In small, friendly groups, children aged 5–9 enjoy stories, take turns reading aloud, and take part in interactive activities — all in a relaxed, welcoming setting. Sessions run up to one hour and are completely free. Just turn up!
Dzingi is a dedicated volunteer with the Norfolk Reading Project who has spent years supporting children in schools. He knows how to make stories come alive, how to engage children of all abilities, and how to build confidence — one story at a time. His sessions are not about homework or pressure; they are about continuity, inspiration, and above all the joy of reading. Children who discover that joy — whether at school or over the holidays — return to learning motivated, curious, and excited to open the next book.
A parent or carer is asked to remain in the building during the session. Teas and coffees will be available
